Rochester Man Gets Probation For Police Chase, Assault on Officer
Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - A Rochester man who crashed into an occupied vehicle during a police chase and later bit off part of a correction officer’s finger has been sentenced.
The chase took place in May when 27-year-old Matthew Judy fled from his parole officer who was checking on him at his residence. Judy led officers on a chase that ended when he crashed into an SUV at the intersection of 4th Avenue and 4th Street SW. A woman and her three young children were in the SUV and were treated for minor injuries. Judy was also hurt and taken to St. Mary’s for treatment.
Police say while strapped in a hospital bed, Judy became combative and tried to headbutt and punch a deputy. He also bit the corrections officer’s hand, severing part of a finger.
Judy pleaded guilty in September to an assault charge and was sentenced Monday. He was placed on probation for up to 4 years and ordered to perform 100 hours community work service.
Judy was classified as a high risk sex offender after he was sent to prison for sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl in 2006. He was released from prison in February.
