Rochester, MN  (KROC AM News) -  A Rochester man spotted driving the wrong way on Highway 14 early Tuesday morning led several officers on a chase that covered about 8 miles before he was forced to stop.

An Olmsted County deputy spotted the man driving east in the westbound lanes of Highway 14 near County Road 104 just west of Rochester around 1:30. The deputy tried to stop the vehicle after its driver turned around but the man took off, headed towards Byron.

The driver then turned north onto County Road 3 and eventually made his way to near Douglas. That’s where a state trooper made a maneuver near 65th Street and brought the vehicle to a stop.

An Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office spokesman says it’s suspected the man was under the influence of alcohol or drugs, or both.

Taken into custody without incident was 58 year old Dennis Craig Smith, who is facing multiple charges.
