Rochester, MN  (KROC AM News)  - A Rochester man has been ordered to pay over $66,000 in restitution and spend five years on probation for taking funds from his ailing mother’s bank accounts.

64-year-old Donald Polikowsky previously pleaded guilty to a felony count of financial exploitation of a vulnerable adult. Three other felony charges were dismissed through the plea agreement. Polikowsky’s 30-year-old son and 38-year-old daughter-in-law were also charged in the case.

The charges against the family members say investigators began looking into suspicious activity involving the finances of Polikowsky’s mother, who had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in 2009, and determined that almost $400,000 had been taken from her accounts. The three family members were accused of using the funds for their own benefit, including the purchases of a home, building materials, and vehicles.

Polikowsky’s son and daughter-in-law are scheduled to stand trial next week.
