Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) -  Rochester motorists are advised to avoid the 16th St SW construction zone east of Apache Mall Thursday.

The city says concrete paving is scheduled to begin on the south side of 16th Street Thursday as the two eastbound lanes of  the roadway will be placed. This will have a significant impact on motorists wishing to travel the corridor. The existing one-way westbound lane will remain open during this work, but concrete trucks will periodically need to stop in the travel lane. Lengthy delays should be expected when the concrete trucks are parked in the travel lane.

There will be additional work during the month of September to complete turn lanes, medians, curb and gutter, sidewalk, and Mayowood Road pavement. This remaining work will have less impact on travel through the corridor, with one lane of westbound traffic remaining open at all times along 16th Street SW. The access to Mayowood Road and the Waters on Mayowood will change at times, so motorists should pay close attention to the construction signage.

This project is on schedule to be fully open to traffic on or before the contract completion date of October 28, 2016.
