The Rochester man who shot and killed his 9 year old daughter before turning the gun on himself had a history of mental illness.

Police Lieutenant Casey Moilanen says 49 year old Bradley Higgins was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia and had been the subject of several so-called “ psych “ police calls since 2007.  Moilanen says he and his wife divorced four years ago.

Higgins had been living with his brother in the Country Club Manor neighborhood.  His ex-wife had dropped off their daughter Mackenzie for a visit Sunday. The shooting was discovered when she returned to pick up the young girl, who attended school in Stewartville.

Moilanen says it’s not known where Higgins got the gun used in the murder/suicide.
