Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - A Rochester teenager was arrested Tuesday night, several hours after police say he and a friend tried robbing a convenience store.

A spokesman says the two entered the Shell gas station near St Francis Church around 5:45pm, wearing bandanas over their faces and flashing handguns.

The clerk recognized them because they had been in the store a short while earlier  - without masks.

He refused to give them any money. One of them  then said, “ Are you for real? You’re not going to give us any money?”  A female customer outside the store saw what was happening and called police. When the teens saw her, they fled on foot.

Police used the store’s surveillance system to identify one of the would-be robbers and the 15-year-old was arrested around 10:00 PM - with the help of a citizen.

The teen was spotted at the Kwik Trip store along Civic Center Dr and when he saw officers approaching, he took off running. But a man who was standing near his truck and saw what was happening stuck out his leg and the teen fell to the ground and was apprehended.

At last check, the other suspect was still being sought.
