Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - Rochester police investigators continue working on last week’s fatal stabbing of a local teenager.

Police say 15-year-old Jose Negrete died after being stabbed in the chest. The fatal stabbing occurred in the parking lot of the Domino’s Pizza restaurant near the 41st Street interchange on Highway 52 just after midnight last Friday.

Police say Negrete was stabbed while fighting with another 15-year-old. That teen suffered a stab wound to the neck and was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital by a private vehicle. It’s believed he has since been released.

Captain John Sherwin says it’s not clear at this point if the incident will be treated as a homicide or self defense. He says investigators will turn over their findings to Olmsted County Attorney Mark Ostrem, who will decide whether any criminal charges will be filed.

A memorial service was held for Negrete on Wednesday.
