Rochester, MN  (KROC AM News) - A Rochester woman was transported to St. Mary's hospital Monday morning after she was struck by a car and dragged about 20 feet in the parking lot of the Rochester School District’s Hawthorne Learning Center.

Rochester Police Capt. John Sherwin says 38-year-old Amy Distad was conscious and alert, but was suffering from leg and hip injuries. Sherwin says she was hit by a car driven by 46-year-old Fardowsa Ahmed, who apparently hit the accelerator instead of the brake as she was pulling into the parking lot of the Learning Center in the 400 block of 7th street southeast around 9:15 a.m.

After striking the pedestrian, Ahmed's car also crashed into five parked vehicles, causing damage significant enough that four of them had to be towed away. She was ticketed for the crash and for driving with only an instructional permit.
