Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - Driving into the sun may have played a role in a deadly motorcycle/pedestrian accident in rural Rochester Monday.

Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Scott Behrns says a motorcycle driven by 44-year-old Tony Loecher of Rochester struck and killed one of two women out for a walk around 6:30 p.m. The woman who was killed was identified as 42-year-old Heidi Hoekstra of Rochester. Her friend was not hurt.

Loecher and a passenger - 52-year-old Susan Lee of Rochester - were taken to St Marys Hospital. Loecher was reported in serious condition Tuesday morning, Lee was listed as good.

Behrns says the accident happened as the westbound motorcycle was going over a small hill while driving on 30th St SE, about a quarter mile west of Marion Rd.The road is  narrow and has no shoulders.

Behrns says it does not appear speed or alcohol were involved.

The accident remains under investigation.
