Rochester, MN  (KROC AM News) -  A Rochester woman who was shot in her Elton Hills neighborhood home was still in critical but stable condition at St. Mary’s Hospital as of Tuesday morning.

Police Captain John Sherwin says she remains unconscious one day after she was shot twice in the upper body. The name of the 48 year old has not been released.

Sherwin says it appears she was shot by a 71 year old Red Wing man who had stopped by her home with some flowers around 9 a.m. Monday. The two apparently had a previous relationship.

The woman was able to get outside after she was shot and collapsed on a sidewalk where witnesses came to her aid and called 911. Sherwin says the witnesses may have stopped her from bleeding to death before paramedics arrived.

After the shooting, the man walked back to his nearby truck where he was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
