Rochester, MN  (KROC AM News) - If you’re in downtown Rochester Tuesday morning, you may notice kids leaning over and picking up discarded cigarette butts.

For the 8th straight year, students from John Adams Middle School will be picking up cigarette butts from 8:00 AM - 1:00 PM.

The group known as the “Butt Kickers!” will also be awarded for their work to help make the downtown a little bit cleaner.  Mayor Ardell Brede, the Rochester Downtown Alliance and the Rochester Park Department have chipped in to donate a nickel for each butt that is turned in, up to $1500.

The money will be given to the John Adams Science Alive! Lab.
