A week from today, July 21st, was to have been Pridefest at Soldiers Field Park. And while activities happening around the same time as Pridefest will go on as planned, the big event people have come to know and love has been canceled.

Why is Pridefest 2018 canceled? It sounds like it has a lot to do with a lack of people to step up and get involved. From a post on the Rochester Minnesota Pridefest Facebook page...

The last year has been a transition for Pridefest, shifting identities from Gay and Lesbian Community Services (GLCS) to the more inclusive Southeast Minnesota Diversity Services (SMDS), a transition not fully embraced by more than a few former members. The cancellation of festivities is a direct result of said transition and lack of volunteer efforts.

Does this spell the end of Pridefest in Rochester altogether? No, but perhaps a new perspective...

Over the coming months we will launch our vision for a more inclusive queer Rochester which will include events throughout the year. If you are interested in participating in this new Rochester, please contact us. We cannot build a movement without you.

What IS still happening? On Friday the 20th, Dragagonza is going to be rockin' the International Event Center (find out more HERE) and also at 6:30, Rebel with a Cause -Pride Prom'll be jammin' at the Rochester Public Library (find out more HERE).
