A teenage motorist survived a life-threatening plunge off a cliff and into the Root River Friday night.

The Fillmore County Sheriff's Department says the 19-year-old woman apparently lost control of her car on a slippery curve along County Road 5 and went off an over 30-foot cliff around 7 p.m.  Her vehicle landed on it's wheels in the ice covered Root River and broke through the ice, but she was able to climb out on her own and was not seriously injured.
