Science is telling us we don't get enough sleep. "I had no idea! we're not getting enough sleep!" said no one ever. But wait, this isn't the usual "you need to get eight hours of sleep, drink a glass of water before bed, and no screen time" stuff. It turns out eight hours of sleep isn't enough!

Daniel Gartenberg is a researcher from Penn State, and he says we're so stressed we're waking up way too much during the night, so we need to add an extra 1/2 hour to make up for the lost sleep. That's right, we should be getting 8 1/2 hours of sleep! Do we know how tired we are? No! That's the wild thing. In this NY Post story, Gartenberg said something really interesting...

“Also, when you’re sleep-deprived, research has shown that you’re really bad at being able to tell that you’re sleep-deprived.”

Think about that...we're so tired we don't even know how tired we are! Yikes.

How do you find out if you're sleep deprived? Next time you have a vacation, for at least a few nights, try going to bed when you normally do. Then make a note of when you wake up naturally. A few nights in a row should give you a pretty good idea. Good luck!

I was looking for some cool pictures of sleeping for this blog, but instead, found some very cool old school pictures of people fake sleeping.
