East Grand Forks, MN (Learfield Wire Services) -  Two severed fingers found in a park in far northwest Minnesota earlier this year belong to a 23-year-old man injured in a fireworks accident.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension says DNA from the fingers matched the DNA of the unidentified man who was hurt in a mishap in downtown Grand Forks, North Dakota in April. The severed fingers were discovered about one month later on a picnic table at a campsite at the Red River Recreational Area in East Grand Forks, Minnesota.

Police Lieutenant Rod Hajicek says a bird or some other animal may have carried the fingers to the park -- but nobody knows for sure.
