Hayfield, MN (KROC-AM News) - Law officers in Dodge County opened fire late Wednesday afternoon while working to apprehend a man wanted by South Dakota authorities.

A news release from the Dodge County Sheriff’s Department indicates the man was spotted leaving a residence in Hayfield around 4 p.m and sped off in a car when officers approached him. While attempting to flee, the man lost control and crashed the car into an apartment building, causing significant structural damage.

Moments later, the officers pursuing the man fired an unknown number of shots as the suspect attempted to flee on foot. No one was hit by the gunfire and the man was taken into custody a short distance away. The man’s name has not been released.

The statement says one of the officers involved in the chase was treated for a minor injury at St. Mary’s Hospital and several vehicles were damaged.
