Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - A small fire broke out Wednesday morning inside a Rochester apartment and the unit’s sprinkler system put it out before firefighters arrived.

The fire was reported at 7 a.m. at the Boulder Apartments complex located at 4494 Stoneview Place SE along 45th Street.

Deputy Fire Chief Steven Belau says the fire started in a corner in the third floor apartment’s living room and began moving up a wall before the sprinkler activated. No one was home but firefighters found a cat inside the apartment. It was not injured.

Belau says water from the sprinkler system caused extensive damage to the apartment where the fire started. Some units on the lower levels were also damaged.
