Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) -  A planned major redevelopment project for downtown Rochester has been added to a list of sites around the state to receive funding to help pay for clean up or to investigate possible contamination.

The Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development has approved a $50,000 grant to cover investigative work at the former Michaels Restaurant site along Broadway.

Current plans call for a a 255 unit apartment building, a 155 room hotel and more than 60,000 square feet of retail space at the one acre site.

It’s suspected the site may contain petroleum and non-petroleum contamination. The developer will match the DEED grant.

The project is being put together by Titan Development and Investments of Rochester and Harbor Bay Real Estate of Chicago. The two are currently developing the new Hilton Hotel across the street from the Michaels site.
