Mendota Heights, MN (KROC-AM News) - A Minnesota State Trooper came to the rescue of a bald eagle on Sunday.

The majestic bird of prey had been hit by a car on I-494 in Mendota Heights. Other motorists managed to avoid the injured eagle as it made its way to the shoulder of the freeway, which is where it was found by the responding state trooper.

According to the State Patrol Facebook page, the trooper used his coat to cover and pick up the injured eagle and then transported it to the University of Minnesota Raptor Center in the back seat of his cruiser. The staff at the Raptor Center later reported the eagle did not have any broken bones, and they were optimistic it would make a full recovery after treatment for some internal injuries.
