Rochester, MN  (KROC AM News) - A Stewartville-area woman is facing several criminal charges connected to a traffic wreck last October that killed one person and seriously injured another.

The wreck happened near Chatfield and the criminal complaint indicates it was caused by 37-year-old Sarah Sexton when she ran a stop sign.

Sexton was driving an SUV that collided with the other vehicle. That vehicle was driven by 67-year-old Duane Hodge of rural Stewartville. He suffered multiple fractures, a traumatic brain injury and the removal of his intestines. His 68-year-old wife Joan was airlifted to St. Mary’s Hospital where she was pronounced dead. Sexton suffered a concussion while her 13-year-old daughter was treated for minor injuries.

The investigation determined Sexton was traveling at  53-54 mph at the time of the collision and that her brakes were not applied. The criminal complaint indicates she was not impaired and was not using her phone at the time of the wreck.

The Fillmore County Attorney’s office has charged her with nine counts, including 2nd-degree manslaughter and criminal vehicular homicide.

She has been ordered to make her first court appearance April 30th.
