Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - The winter storm that blasted southeast Minnesota Monday is gone but it left behind heavy, wet snow that will affect the Tuesday morning commute in most places.

Because of that, Rochester and many other area school districts will open two hours late Tuesday.

The storm’s strong winds made driving really hard Monday afternoon and evening as they produced whiteout conditions and drifting in open areas. The Rochester City Council canceled its Monday evening meeting, one of dozens of cancellations caused by the storm.

Snowfall totals at last report in Olmsted County were in the 6-7.5-inch range. Mantorville and Wabasha reported 8 inches.

Rochester’s official total was 6.3 inches, a record for the date (previous was 4.7 in 2014).

Cold air will move in behind the storm and it may not get above freezing in the Rochester area until Friday at the earliest.
