Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - The Rochester area experienced its first 90 degree day of the season about a month earlier than average.

The National Weather Service says the mercury climbed to an unofficial high of 90 degrees at the Rochester Airport by mid-afternoon Friday. The current record high temperature for May 6th is 94 degrees.

Friday was the warmest day in Rochester since June 9th of last year when the mercury hit 93 degrees, which was the only 90 degree day of the entire year.

A cold front is forecast to move through the area overnight and produce some scattered storms and a return to seasonable high temperatures in the upper 60s and low 70s this weekend.
