Suspected Murder-Suicide Victims were Father and Daughter (UPDATE)
Rochester Police have not released the names of the victims of a suspected murder-suicide, but say the victims were a father and his young daughter.
The bodies of the 49-year-old man and 9-year-old girl were found late Sunday afternoon after police were called to the 4500 block of 5th street northwest to investigate reports of gunshots inside a home. A spokesman says the evidence at the scene suggests the man shot and killed the child and then turned the gun on himself. Officials say the victims were found in the basement of the home, while three adults and three children were in the upper level.
One of the adults was the mother of the 9-year-old girl, who had just arrived at the residence to pick-up her daughter from a short visit with her father, who was living in the basement of his brother’s house.
An official determination on the manner of their deaths will be made after the autopsies on the victim have been conducted. At this point, investigators have not disclosed what might have prompted the shootings.
