Cancer has touched most of us and Kelly Strenge of Lake Crystal, Minnesota has published a book explaining cancer to children. The book is called “The Truth About Cancer” and it speaks to children about what cancer is, how it is treated and the effect it can have on someone’s life.

The book is targeted at children who have cancer or children who know someone who has it. Kelly wrote the book after explaining a relapse of her husband’s cancer to their two children who are four and nine. Kelly’s husband has been battling Hodgkin’s Lymphoma for the past 8 years and has endured chemotherapy, radiation, two stem cell transplants and two study drug programs through Mayo Clinic. Because of this, Kelly is giving half of all her profits back to Leukemia Lymphoma Society, St. Jude Children’s Hospital and Mayo Clinic for cancer research.

Here is what some are saying about the book:

“I highly recommend this book for any child who has ever heard the word cancer.  An informative and uplifting story that will open the doors of conversation.” - Luis F. Porrata, MD, Mayo Clinic, Division of Hematology

“Beautifully written children’s book!  This is a lovely story that outlines the facts about cancer.  It offers hope and understanding to a child faced with cancer or who knows someone diagnosed with cancer.”Crystal Curtis, MSW, LICSW, Clinical Social Worker, Mankato Clinic

Kelly will be signing copies of her book this Friday (July 31) in the Shops at Gonda gift shop at Mayo Clinic between 11am and 1pm. Shops at Gonda is located in the subway level of the Gonda Building. To find out more, visit her website at www.authorkellystrenge.com.
