It’s official…Vikings quarterback Matt Cassel is out for the season with multiple broken bones in his left foot.  The team announced that they put Cassel on the “injured reserve” list today.  He was injured against the Saints last Sunday in New Orleans.  Rookie Teddy Bridgewater will take over at quarterback and his backup will be last year’s starter Christian Ponder.

That Saints game proved to be costly for the Vikings.  The team said that guard Brandon Fusco is also out for the season with a pectoral injury.  Tight end Kyle Rudolph will miss up to six weeks with a groin injury and linebacker Chad Greenway will miss time with a broken hand and broken ribs.

In addition to looking like a M*A*S*H unit injury-wise, you’ll recall that the team is also without star running back Adrian Peterson, who is on indefinite leave after he was indicted by a grand jury on charges of reckless or negligent injury to his 4-year-old son.

Just a month ago there was some optimism for this year’s team, but after one of the toughest Septembers I can remember, it looks like yet another long and disappointing season ahead for the purple.
