Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - Construction work on the Mayo Civic Center expansion project will impact traffic in downtown Rochester beginning Monday.

Motorists can expect lane closures on Civic Center Drive/ Third Avenue Southeast between East Center Street and Fourth Street. Special passenger drop-off areas will be established along the east side of the road and will only be accessible by northbound traffic.

The skyway connection to the Civic Center will also be closed while the $84 million project proceeds. Officials say the traffic lane and skyway closures will continue into next year.

Work is also scheduled to begin Monday of the reconstruction of Valleyhigh Road Northwest. The project involves the stretch of the road that runs from County Road 104 (60th Avenue) to West Circle Drive. The existing two-lane road will be expanded into a four-lane divided concrete roadway and will feature a multi-lane roundabout at the intersection with 50th Avenue Northwest.

The portion of Valleyhigh Drive from West Circle Drive to Technology Drive will also be expanded to four-lanes as part of the $10.3 million dollar project.

Officials note the roadway west of West Circle Drive will be closed to traffic until the work is completed in mid-October.
