Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) -  Blizzard warnings were still in effect at noon Monday for southwest Minnesota where strong north winds are affecting driving conditions.

Wind gusts of 40-50 miles per hour have been producing whiteout conditions and MnDOT has been advising no unnecessary travel in the warning zone, which includes the cities of Redwood Falls, New Ulm and Fairmont.

As of noon Monday, sections of I-90 in the Jackson area and near the South Dakota border were closed because of several traffic accidents and poor conditions. Several other highways and roads were also closed due to the weather.

Conditions should improve by Monday evening as the winds begin to diminish.

Cold air has already arrived and it appears it will cover the entire state all week.The temperature at the Rochester airport rose to 37 degrees at 3 p.m. Sunday. It began falling after that, all the way to 17 degrees at midnight.
