Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - For the 7th straight year, students from John Adams middle school will be in downtown Rochester Thursday cleaning up the mess left by smokers.

The group of Butt Kickers will walk around the downtown picking up cigarette butts.

The effort is sponsored by the Rochester Downtown Alliance and the Park Department. They will donate a nickel for each butt that is turned in, up to $1000. The money is turned over to the John Adams Science Alive! Lab. Last year, the kids turned in more than 28,000 butts - the most ever.

They plan to be in the downtown from  8 am - 1 p.m.
