Another huge Powerball jackpot has been won...by someone else. Last night's $310 million winning ticket was sold at a gas station just south of Kalamazoo, Michigan. I could have won that jackpot if I would have just thought things through. Let me explain.

The winning numbers were: 21-39-40-55-59 with the Powerball number 17. When filling out my Powerball numbers I should have considered the following. 21 is the legal drinking age. There are 39 books in the Old Testament. I used to love to listen to Casey Kasem's American Top-40, so 40 should have been an obvious choice. 55 is the number that Sammy Hagar can't drive. Matt Blair, my favorite Minnesota Viking linebacker of all-time, wore jersey number 59. And finally, I met my wife 17 years ago...perfect for the Powerball number, right?

If I had put all of those thoughts together, I would be $310 million richer today. OK, $155 million richer because I'd have to split it with that person in Michigan. Actually it would be much less than that due to taxes...but you get my point. So close and yet so far. Maybe next time.
