Last week Scotty Matthews wrote about five stores in Rochester where your data may have been hacked; Forever 21, GameStop, K-Mart, Best Buy, and Panera. There's almost nothing you can do, short of ONLY using cash, to protect yourself from these data-breaches. Because it's not your fault, the store didn't do their part properly.

An important step is to NOT wait until you get a notice from the store saying, "Hey, sorry...we screwed up!" Check your accounts regularly. With online banking, you don't need to wait 'til the end of the month. You can check weekly...even daily. Financial institutions have gotten better about alerting you to unusual card use, but it isn't a perfect system, so check your account activity regularly.

What do you do if you find something is wrong? Or, how do you just get some piece of mind? Thanks to a listener, and an employee at a financial institution, we have the answer for you.

Thank you Lisett for the info!
