Rochester, MN (KROC AM News)  - Several local organizations have hooked up to plan what’s being called the Rochester Community Celebration.

The tentative plan calls for the event to run August 20th – 23rd.

According to organizers, it would operate on a variety of levels, depending on the guidance of the governor and current Minnesota Department of Health COVID-19 guidelines.

The collaborative group, led by Rochesterfest Executive Director Brandon Helgeson, includes representatives from Rochester Downtown Alliance, RNeighbors, Mayo Civic Center, Experience Rochester, Rochester Chamber of Commerce, Rochester Art Center, Rochester Public Schools, Olmsted County Fair, Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office, various City of Rochester departments, KTTC TV, Northern Sun Productions, Big BANG Companies, and other area businesses.

The current plan calls for:
• stages for live music offerings in northwest, northeast, southwest and
southeast Rochester (options include limited live in-person events, drive-in events, and a strictly virtual option)
• A fireworks display on August 22 at Soldiers Field Memorial Park.
• The Million Dollar Hole in one golf event

The Rochesterfest board is also working on a safe drive-through parade. More events will be announced as the planning continues.

Helgeson shares, “These have been extremely challenging times for all of us as individuals, business owners, neighbors, family members, friends and more. I’m extremely proud to be a part of a group that has come together, quickly, to collaborate and assist one another in offering something back to our community. We are putting together something that would normally take well over a year to plan and we are doing it in mere months. I believe taking positive action in a negative situation is the only way to handle it. We hope that this event will provide community members a safe opportunity to celebrate together.”
