Every Month, Kristin LaPlante's fifth grade class does a community service project so they'll discover first hand they can make a difference. This month they've adopted a family left with nothing by Hurricane Harvey and could use your help.

The basic story is one we've heard over and over again. Hurricanes destroy so much, tear apart homes, lives, and towns. They need our help to find the direction to take the next steps.

Just outside Houston lives Mariah, a single mom with three school aged students and a father dealing with life-threatening cancer.  She and her family lived in an apartment. That apartment is now gone, and with it, all their possessions. Their left with only the clothes on their back.

This is where Mrs LaPlante and her class come in. Looking for a service project, they decided they wanted to make a difference, and do it where they could impact on family directly. So, they adopted Mariah and her family.
