Cedar Rapids, IA (KROC-AM News) - A bank robbery conviction in northern Iowa has resulted in an over 9-year prison sentence for an Austin man.

A news release from the US Attorney for Northern Iowa says 28-year-old Luis Vega earlier pleaded guilty to federal charges of bank robbery and using a firearm during a violent crime. In addition to his 114-month prison sentence, Vega was also ordered to pay over $6800 in restitution to the bank.

According to his plea agreement, Vega held up a bank in Lime Springs, Iowa on September 3, 2019. During the robbery, he pointed a 45 caliber pistol at several bank employees while demanding they fill a bag with cash before he fled from the building.

It only took several hours for law enforcement officers to locate Vega and arrested him. The news release notes Vega made it a fairly easy task to identify him as the robber because he drove his own truck to the bank.
