Big Addition Planned For Chester Woods Park If Grant Money Is Approved
Chester Woods is one of my favorite places in the area. Our family spends a lot of time there in the summer hanging at the beach, canoeing and kayaking, and hiking around the approximately 15 miles of trails. Snowshoeing and cross-country skiing are popular activities in the winter.
The park is located about 15 minutes east of Rochester and could be getting a major addition soon if a $338,000 grant is approved. Below you can read a press release that was sent out by the county on Monday morning and explains how the funding would be used.
Olmsted County Park's Department Wants to Use Grant for Chester Woods Addition
“We would like to find and provide culturally diverse music, plays, and other entertainment from community groups that are aligned with One Olmsted – our county’s diversity, equity, and inclusion initiative.”
If the $338,800 grant is approved by the Minnesota Legislature the Olmsted County Parks Department would like to use the money to build a new amphitheater at Chester Woods.
The county says organizations around Southeast Minnesota could use the space to "provide education and entertainment."
Olmsted County Parks Director Karlin Ziegler said, "We would like to find and provide culturally diverse music, plays, and other entertainment from community groups that are aligned with One Olmsted – our county’s diversity, equity, and inclusion initiative.”
The amphitheater would be located near the picnic area in the southwest corner of the park. The press release says, "it would feature an 800 square-foot stage and seating for 125 to 250 people on limestone seats and grass terraces."
