Bird Flu Outbreak Total in Minnesota Is Now Over 100
St. Paul, MN (KROC-AM News) - Minnesota has now experienced over 100 outbreaks of a deadly bird flu since the first outbreak was detected in a commercial turkey flock back in March.
State officials on Friday announced four new presumptive outbreaks affecting commercial poultry flocks in southern Minnesota, boosting the total to 102. The number of chicken and turkey deaths blamed on the H5N2 virus and efforts to contain its spread in Minnesota now exceeds 8.3 million.
The latest cases were found at farms in Blue Earth, Renville, Brown, and Kandiyohi Counties. The outbreak in Blue Earth County was the first in that county.
