If you're still searching for the perfect present for your Valentine, how about getting them their own island-- right here in Minnesota?

That's right, it's an island. There are two of them for sale. And, yes, they're right here in Minnesota-- about an hour north of Rochester, as it turns out, right there in the middle of the mighty Mississippi River in Inver Grove Heights.

That's the word from Dakota County Commissioner Joe Atkins, who posted some information about the island on his Facebook page last week. The islands are private property, even though one is apparently used as a party-stop by boaters, tubers and other recreational users on that part of the Mississippi River.

The islands were apparently tax-forfeited by their current owners, and Dakota County now owns the properties. And, Atkins says, the county is offering it up for bids starting on March 10th. How's THAT for a unique Valentine's Day present?!?

Here's more information on the islands:

ISLAND #1. Just north of the Rock Island Swing Bridge and a stone's throw from River Heights Marina, the first island includes the southern tip of the larger island to its east, for a total of 2.68 acres. Bidding will start at $100. The parcel's ID # is 20-00200-04-010.

ISLAND #2. A few miles south, lying west of the Pine Bend Bluffs, a natural preserve, island #2 is 2.31 acres. Bidding for this island will also start at $100. The parcel's ID# is 20-03500-26-010.
