Can You Guess The Most Popular App Downloaded In 2022?

Happy Wednesday, and if you didn’t know, happy National Download Day! Yeah that’s right there’s a day set aside to celebrate downloading apps, and today is the day.

Apps have become so ingrained within our society from how we socialize, how we learn, and just how we function, and so every year we get to see which apps were downloaded the most.

Nationaltoday.com shares some interesting facts about apps such as “the average mobile phone user has 60 to 90 apps installed on their phone,” and in addition, “87% of smartphone owners download  3+ apps per year.” Woah!

Now that 2022 is coming to a close, let’s take a look at this year’s most downloaded apps, and the winner, who holds 1^st place for the 3^rd year in a row.

#10:  Spotify

With the hype of Spotify Wrapped, every year and the activity of listening to music being mainly through streams, this one makes sense.

#9: WhatsApp Business

I did not know that WhatsApp had a business app, but I love and appreciate that it does. Startuptalky.com explains that WhatsApp Business “targets small business owners dealing with a few client requests daily. It has a similar user design to the consumer WhatsApp app, with a few extra functions."

#8: CapCut-Video Editor

With the fact that this is a free app and it contains many features, it makes sense why CapCut is in the top ten (and is extremely compatible with TikTok).

#7: Messenger

An app from Meta Platforms and connected to Facebook? I can see why it is in the top 10.

#6: Telegram

Another app I haven’t heard of before, but according to startuptalky.com, Telegram is “a cloud-based, cross-platform, encrypted instant messaging service, offers optional end-to-end encrypted video calling, VoIP, file sharing, and other services… The monthly active users on Telegram surpassed 700 million in June 2022.”

#5: Snapchat

Startuptalky.com explains that “India had the highest Snapchat user base worldwide as of April 2022. With almost 107 million Snapchat users, the United States placed second overall.” Woah!!

#4: WhatsApp

As someone who knows how popular this app is all over the world for people to communicate (even over international phone networks!), it makes sense that WhatsApp is in the top 5.

Facebook is the most popular social networking app globally!

#2: Instagram

Startuptalky.com shares that “Instagram was the most popular app in Asia, followed by Facebook, also owned by Meta. With approximately 65% of all Instagram installs in Asia occurring in India, Instagram is the most popular app in India.”

#1: TikTok

With over 186 Mn downloads worldwide, TikTok stands its ground as #1! Ever Since 2020, TikTok has reigned supreme as the most downloaded app in 2020, 2021, and now 2022, and it makes sense. This entertainment app has created a space for people to create in so many ways it is crazy!
