Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - The final 161 kilovolt segment of the CapX2020 transmission line from Hampton to Rochester and La Crosse that serves the Rochester area was put into service this week. The consortium of public and private utilities led by Xcel Energy says the line running from north Rochester to a Rochester Public Utilities substation in Chester was energized on Monday.

Work continues on the final 345 kilovolt transmission line between Pine Island and Hampton and will result in some lane restrictions on Highway 52 north of Zumbrota on Thursday. Weather permitting, brief traffic stoppages will occur on Monday while crews use helicopters to continue stringing power lines across the highway.

Officials say the entire Hampton-Rochester-La Crosse project is scheduled to be completed and energized later this year.
