Just a few months ago, I made a switch in a bunch of my food choices and started loading up on salads. Those pre-packaged green salads that you can buy at the store have been my go-to-meals lately, and that's why this latest health alert about the Cyclospora parasite caught my attention.
A lot of investigating about the source of this parasite is still happening. And, most people recover from this illness without treatment (according to the CDC), but I'm just going to say it...if there is a way to avoid getting watery, explosive diarrhea that could last a month, I'm all in on that solution. Today, I did a bunch of research to know what foods I should avoid for a bit until we have a few more answers about the Cyclospora parasite and its origin.

During my research today, I noticed a list of foods that were labeled by health officials as "riskiest" right now due to the parasite. I don't want you to get sick either so I thought I'd better share that with my fans.

According to the CDC, there are several vegetables that are considered low-risk for contamination due to the option of peeling or cooking them thoroughly. The lowest-risk vegetables on the list include the following:
- Carrots
- Sweet potatoes
- Potatoes
- Winter squash
- Zucchini and yellow squash (cooked)
- Green beans (cooked)
- Asparagus (cooked)
- Broccoli (steamed or roasted)
- Cauliflower (steamed or roasted)
- Brussels sprouts (roasted)
- Corn (cooked)
- Mushrooms (cooked)
