Stewartville, MN (KROC-AM NEWS) - A truck driver from Iowa was killed in one of the two crashes that occurred on I-90 near Stewartville Monday afternoon and shut down the westbound lanes of the freeway for hours.

A preliminary State Patrol report says 38-year-old Jonathan Schadt of Des Moines man was driving a semi-truck that rear-ended another westbound truck around 1:50 p.m. The deadly collision took place while authorities were responding to another crash involving two trucks on westbound I-90 a short distance to the west just before the Highway 63 interchange.

The first crash, which took place about 10 minutes earlier, involved a semi-truck sideswiping another semi that had stopped along the freeway.

Cleaning up the sites of the crashes and the investigation of the fatal crash kept the westbound lanes of I-90 closed between the Highway 52 and Highway 63 interchanges for over 5 ½ hours.

The name of the man killed in the crash is expected to be released Tuesday morning.
