The City of Rochester Parks and Recreation Department and the Rochester Archery Club's controlled bow hunt for deer at 11 parks across the med city started Saturday and wraps up on Dec. 31. Officials say the hunt is in response to increasing public concerns about Rochester’s urban deer population, saying there were over 200 deer-related vehicle accidents reported in the city last year.

The parks and trails where hunting is taking place will stay open, however some areas may be closed off. The following city parks are accepting bowhunters starting Saturday:

Full Season - September 17 -- December 31st:

  • Willow Creek
  • Gamehaven
  • South Zumbro Trail natural area from 16th St. Southwest to Mayowood Rd.
  • Indian Heights
  • Northern Heights

There are also parks that will be added to the rotation for local bowhunters starting next month:

Late Season - October 15th -- December 31st:

  • Foster Arend
  • Hadley Creek Golf Course
  • Bear Creek
  • McQuillan
  • Essex Park
  • North Zumbro natural areas from Recreation Center to 37th St. Northwest
