"Snakes. Why did it have to be snakes?"

While I sadly can't say that I share too many things in common with Indiana Jones, our mutual fear of all things that slither on the ground is definitely one of them. Snakes freak me the hell out, man! Which is one of the many reasons why Minnesota is an ideal place to live. Sure, we have garter snakes and even some rare poisonous snakes, but we're still much safer than the desert dwellers in the Southwest.

Or at least, that's what I thought. It turns out that some people in Southeast Minnesota think we could be having a mini-outbreak of rattlesnakes. How bad is it? The Winona Police Department has been getting so many complaints about rattlesnake sightings that they're calling a meeting next week. Okay, so it's more like two complaints a week since June. But that's still kind of a lot!

...Sure, YOU SAY THAT NOW. I'll be looking forward to that update.

Luckily, most rattlesnakes will keep to themselves unless bothered. If you're wondering how you can better spot a timber rattlesnake out in the wild, the Minnesota DNR has a helpful guide.
