Duluth, MN (KROC-AM News) - Duluth police have now been involved in a standoff with a man who shot and killed a police dog since about 8:30 last night.

The Duluth Police Department says the situation began when officers responded to a residence to investigate a report of a physical domestic disturbance. After arriving at the scene, the officers were informed that the suspect was wanted on felony warrants and he refused to surrender.

K9 Officer Luna was then sent into the residence in an effort to apprehend the man, who responded by shooting and fatally wounding the police dog. Following the gunfire, the Duluth police officers at the scene retreated and established a perimeter around the property.

As of 10:30 this morning, Duluth police continue to describe the suspect as dangerous, armed, and uncooperative. They are urging members of the public to stay away from the area due to the ongoing dangerous situation.
