Two people from South St. Paul were killed Thursday when a dump truck rear-ended three vehicles on Highway 55 in Rosemount around 12:20 P.M. The names of the deceased have not been released pending notification of family members.

The fatal crash occurred on Eastbound Highway 55 at Doyle Path. At the time of the crash a driver of the 2006 Sterling AT9500 Semi who was heading Eastbound on Highway 55 was stopped to turn left onto Doyle Path.

According to the State Patrol report, a 2015 Suburu Legacy, occupied by a 47-year-old driver and 48-year-old passenger from South St. Paul and a 2008 Dodge Ram 2500, driven by 55-year-old Neal Wagner of Rochester, were both stopped behind the Sterling Semi waiting for it to turn when they were all struck from behind by a 1991 green Volvo Dump Truck driven by 46-year-old Fred Fonji of Roseville.

The dump truck first struck the Ram 2500 which pushed it into the ditch. The dump truck then rear-ended the 2015 Suburu legacy, causing the Suburu to crash into the rear end of the semi.

After the impact of the crash, all three vehicles came to rest in the north ditch with the Suburu to be wedged in between the semi and the dump truck.

Road conditions at the time of the crash were dry. The three other vehicle drivers all suffered what the State Patrol cited as non-life threatening injuries and were taken to Regions Hospital in St. Paul.

Responding along with the Minnesota State Patrol to the crash site was the Dakota County Sheriff's Office.
