“La Societe des 40 Hommes et 8 Chevaux” 2025 88th Annual Easter Egg Hunt
Olmsted County Voiture Locale 327 of the 40 & 8 will host its 88th annual Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 19th at 10AM for children 10 and under. The first Easter Egg Hunt was April 16, 1938.
The egg hunt will be at the Tennis Court and Baseball Field at Quarry Hill Park West located in Rochester at 9th St NE and 19th Ave NE. Every child will get a bag of goodies, and the egg hunt will not be cancelled because of the weather.
Our 40 & 8 Boxcar will be at the park. The 40 & 8 is a nationally recognized Veterans Organization founded in 1920 by World War I Veterans. During World War I, the American soldiers fighting in France would be transported by boxcars. A boxcar would hold 40 men or 8 horses. Therefore, we call our organization in French “La Societe des 40 Hommes et 8 Chevaux” or “The Society of 40 Men and 8 Horses”, and we ride in a “Voiture Locale 327” or in English “Boxcar Local # 327”. Our membership is open to all honorably discharged veterans both female and male and those currently serving members of the United States Armed Forces.
