St Joseph, MN (KROC AM News)  - At last report, authorities in the St Cloud area were looking for a possibly armed man who reportedly punched a Minnesota State Trooper Thursday.

This is the information from the Minnesota State Patrol:

Law enforcement officials are asking the public near St. John’s University to remain indoors and keep their doors and windows locked as they search for a suspect who may be armed. St. John’s University is currently on lockdown.

The Minnesota State Patrol along with the Stearns County Sherriff’s office are actively seeking a suspect who fled on foot in the area of St. John’s University in St. Joseph. A State Patrol Trooper stopped a suspect for suspicion of DWI. After a preliminary breath test the suspect punched the trooper causing non-life threatening injuries. The suspect then fled and a pursuit began on I-94. The suspect fled on foot after all four tires on the car he was driving were damaged by spike strips.

An officer involved in the pursuit saw the suspect reach his arm out of the vehicle during the pursuit. The suspect had something black in his hand, possibly a firearm. The Minnesota State Patrol and Stearns County Sheriff’s office are being assisted by K9 units and an unmanned aerial vehicle in the search. The State Patrol Aviation unit is also assisting.
