Sheriff’s deputies and police officers from around the state along with the Minnesota State Patrol will be participating in a "Click It or Ticket" campaign from now through September 28th. Extra law enforcement will be patrolling Minnesota roads looking for people who aren't buckled up and for children who are not properly secured in child safety seats.

According to the 2019 Minnesota Seat Belt Survey, 93.4 percent of front seat occupants are wearing their seat belts. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says:

  • If you buckle up in the front seat of a passenger car, you can reduce your risk of fatal injury by 45 percent.
  • In 1987, there were 4,176 vehicle occupants who suffered severe injuries in traffic crashes in Minnesota. That number dropped to 1,156 in 2018.
  • In Minnesota crashes from 2014 – 2018, of the 17,237 children ages 0-7 that were properly restrained, 87 percent were not injured. Another 10 percent sustained only possible injuries.

Buckle up, drive safe, and avoid a ticket.
