Recently a Faribault High School student Juan Cruz Baez took home a first-place finish in the SkillsUSA Automotive Service Technology category this past weekend. If you are unfamiliar with the program SkillsUSA their mission according to their website is: "creating opportunities for students, educators, and business. This is accomplished through leadership training, volunteerism opportunities, competitions and conferences, which enhance students’ self-worth and employability skills to create a seamless transition into the workforce."

Juan is going to be headed to Louisville, KY to compete at Nationals in the Automotive Service Technology category June 24-28.  I spoke with Kevin Paukert who teaches Automotive Technology at Faribault High School. Paukert who is in his 3rd year of teaching Automotive Technology told me that Juan competed in several areas Saturday including a written test, job interview, hands-on stations covering "precision measurement", "steering and suspension", "engine performance", "electronic service information", "automatic transmissions"  and "electronics and charging systems".

According to an emailed press release from Kevin Paukert, "Juan has completed all our auto classes offered at the high school and is currently doing an automotive internship at Harry Brown's Family Automotive."
