A Spring Valley fourth-grader won the top prize in a national essay contest.

10-year-old Hailee Warren attends Kingsland Schools, and decided to enter the National Rural Essay Association essay contest. The essay was to be written on how your school connects with your community. The NREA awarded Warren with the first place prize in the national contest that had 45 entries from writers in grades 3 through 5.

The prize included $250 for getting first place, the second place winner was from Texas.
