We've all made our way thru the Monday after Daylight Saving Time (DST) and maybe you're thinking you wouldn't like to go thru that again anytime soon. Here are four reasons why year-round DST would be a good thing.

1 - LIFESAVING

  • Driving home from work is mostly in the dark, and with so many people on the road, there's danger everywhere. Rutgers did research and found 343 lives could be saved every year if we switched to year-round DST.

2 - DECREASE CRIME

  • According to TheConversation.com, crime would decrease (which means deaths during crime would decrease).

Criminals strongly prefer to do their work in the darkness of evening and night. Crime rates are lower by 30 percent in the morning to afternoon hours, even when those morning hours occur before sunrise, when it’s still dark. (Source)

3 - ENERGY SAVINGS

  • Sun out later = less light and less heat needed at home and business, which saves the fuel that creates both. (Source) With more energy available, there's less of a chance of a blackout when you need emergency medical care. Sure, a slight increase in life-saving, but still.

4 - BETTER SLEEP

  • This isn't a certainty, of course, but better sleep means better health. It's just that simple.
